Fresh dungeness crab on the Wilderness Discoverer

On my recent cruise with the Wilderness Discoverer through Alaska’s Inside Passage, we were treated to fresh dungeness crab. The ship’s kitchen staff cleaned the crabs on the pier in Wrangell and we later had them for dinner on board. The huge chunks of fresh crab meat were a culinary highlight of the cruise.

A peek inside the kitchen of El Celler de Can Roca

One of the highlights of my recent visit to Costa Brava in Spain was an unforgettable lunch at El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, recently voted as the world’s second best restaurant. Prior to the lunch, we were taken on a fascinating tour around the kitchen. Here’s a peek.

This section of the kitchen looked more like a science lab!

Suquet de peis at Cala Joncols

One of the many highlights of my recent trip to the Costa Brava in Catalonia was the seafood lunch at Cala Joncóls. A team of fishermen cooked us a feast, featuring a traditional Catalan dish: suquet de peix (a stew with potatoes, various types of fish and stingray).

Chicken rice in Penang

Penang is a true culinary paradise. One of the things every visitor must do is try the wide array of local specialties, like laksa and fried kuey teow. One of my favourites is Hainan chicken rice (roast chicken with rice, slices of cucumber and accompanied by a spicy chili sauce), not a typical Penang dish per sé, but made to perfection!
