Medicine Lake – the vanishing lake

Medicine Lake can be found in the Canadian Rockies near the town of Jasper. This lake is particularly intriguing as it simply vanishes at certain times of the year, leaving nothing but little streams, shallow pools and mud flats behind. The Indians in the area believed the disappearance of the lake was caused by “big medicine” or magic and they feared it. Scientists later attributed the phenomenon to fractures in the lake-bed and a series of underground water passages.

The great Canadian migration

Well, no, not really a great Canadian migration but thought that would make a great title. Haha! I was on my way to Jasper from Edmonton and passed this along the way. I guess the owners couldn’t bear to part with their house so they decided to take it with them! It was quite a sight.

Inukshuk at English Bay, Vancouver

The Inukshuk is an ancient symbol of the Inuit and is traditionally used as a landmark and navigational aid. The inukshuk was also used as the logo of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. This granite inukshuk stands at the edge of English Bay in Vancouver.

The Jasper Tramway

Taking the Jasper Tramway to the top of The Whistlers is a great way to get a bird’s eye view of the town of Jasper and its surroundings. On a clear day, the views of the town below, the colourful lakes and mountain ranges (including the snow-capped peak of Mt. Robson, the highest point in the Canadian Rockies) are absolutely spectacular!

A beautiful day in Vancouver

Vancouver is arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world, thanks to its spectacular location. Taken from the Convention Centre, this photo shows the swanky condominium towers that line the Coal Harbour waterfront, with Stanley Park in the background. In the foreground, you’ll see the Vancouver seaplane terminal.
